Sankthansaften
What it's about: A family from Recife, half a year in Kristiansand, is invited by their neighbour Jarle, a retired sailor, to the Midsummer bonfire by the sea. They burn sausages, compare it with Brazil's festa junina (held in winter there), watch their daughter outlast her father in sixteen-degree water, and wait all night for darkness that never comes: 'When does the night actually come?' 'In August.'
