When bites start appearing in both pumpkins, each is sure the other is a saboteur, and a secret night watch ends with both of them in the same blackcurrant bush.

Når man endelig får en liten hytte og en parsell på et par hundre kvadratmeter, gir man den ikke fra seg. Gudmund Sæther hadde hatt parsellen sin i trettisju år. Han hadde vært trikkefører i hele sitt yrkesliv, og han behandlet gulrøttene sine slik han en gang hadde behandlet trikken: med stor respekt og null toleranse for forsinkelser.
